Glare sucks, I can't see a damn thing on it with the top down, and if I have my Maui Jim's on (polarized) I can see even less (if thats possible).
I disagree. It does washout, but only in the most direct sunlight (5pm traffic, heading east or 8 am traffic heading west) with the top down. Any unit will washout in these conditions (hell, even my 42" plasma would washout in those conditions ) unless the screen has been treated (treated LCD's run around $600-700). And your maui jim's should actually help you see the screen, as it filters out the reflected/refracted glare. Try tilting your head a bit, if it is cocked to the side at all, the polarized filters will rotate as well and the screen will "black out" to your eyes (try looking at it with your shades on, the rotate head back and forth in a dumb-blonde "I dont know" fashion, and the screen will fade in and out). I have a set of REVO polarized shades, and they work great. They allow me to see through the washout in direct worse-case sunlight.

I've read that since it's controlled by the speedo that if you happen to be inbetween certain speeds the volume increases and decreases somewhat annoyingly.

But I don't own one, so my opinion should be superfluous at most....

All right I bought my IDA on ebay for $304 shipped and the guy threw in a honda wiring harness for free, also ordered my wired DCI from bob @ modifry. With the issues I've seen with the scv I think I'm gonna skip it for now. I also have the 422i cable from my old car which had a 9856 in it.
So the question is am I missing anything? How easy is the modifry install?
Plug and play, I was thing of a on/off switch inline for the SCV. Maybe the 2005 ap2 has a issue with
DCI and scv, lots of other post with NO probs. Wish I could hook up with someone here in So Cal to compare radios

With Maui Jim's you can't see anything at any angle. I gave up and just put it on shuffle and leave it alone. I love the features of this unit, but ran into another problem yesterday that's been bugging me as well, I am running Boston Pro 60's in the doors, off of a Phoenix Gold Ti600.2. And Another 600.2 running to a single Boston G5 fiberglass enclosure in the trunk. This system sounded phenominal with my old 9857 head unit, the instant I put this unit in things went weird. Well after an entire day at a car audio shop in the install bay, we narrowed it down the the pre outs on this model head unit. We slaved in other alpine models and everything sounded wonderful, with this unit in my max volume suffered terribly and distortion set in quickly, no amount of adjustment on input levels helped. We tried three new IDA units and all were the same. Then we installed a line driver set to five volts and voila! all is normal again. Just thought I would share this day long adventure with anyone running large amounts of power in their system with this head unit.

the unit comes bluetooth READY. you must add the bluetooth adapter which if anybody is interested in buying i am going to be purchasing a couple through best buy. You must have this unit to connect your phone to your unit. the pioneer DOES come with bluetooth but its not as good as the alpine unit because the microphone is built into the deck for the pioneer where as the alpine has a tiny microphone you can mount wherever you want. plus the alpine will show call logs, phone book, things like that on the screen...the pioneer has trouble showing everything
This is not accurate regarding the Pioneer, at least with the DEH-P790BT. There is a small microphone that you mount wherever you like for use with a bluetooth phone. You can load your phone book into it, etc. The 790 also has a new (to Pioneer) Ipod interface, which is direct like with Alpine. I am looking at this head unit and am impressed at how quickly I can find tracks on Ipod and MP3 discs, and how much information is displayed on the screen. I suppose the 980 is last year's model as it still uses the previous Ipod interface and is not as quick with response.

Can those of you with this HU confirm whether all text will scroll, or only song title?

I read a customer review on cnet that mentioned artist would not scroll, so if you have, as in their example, both Dave Matthews Band and Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds, you would only see Dave Matt or something to that effect for both.

heresnowhy - That is interesting... The pre-outs are supposed to be 2v pre-outs, not 5v! Weird! You aren't using the "preset" EQ function are you? That could screw with things...
