his kit is almost 120 dollars. i know i can do it for cheaper if i use the pac swi-jack and a generic harness (i know i will have to crimp the wires). i was just wondering if anyone went in this direction.

I fitted the same HU with both Modifry's DCI & Alpine plug-n-play harness. It makes the install so simple, straight forward and quick that it justifies the extra you pay, and I had to pay for intl delivery too.
Not sure what the red/DCI issue is all about, mine works perfectly...which is good as I have the red interior!
Oh, and the HU itself is great.
