so... any other set ups in mind? or should we talk coilovers now?
Nice, I'm surprised they let installation money out the door. Usually management is hard up about that because it hurts their numbers. Kudos to you man. Actually think a proper sound system gives more satisfaction. Its a creature comfort than you can hear right away.

we did installation under the table, but when i went to go return the items... they didnt ask if it was installed. i didnt get my installation money back, but he said that if i get any other set up i can go to him and he wont charge me for installing it again. i still have to save up because everyone knows xmas makes you broke. i want a SQ system but also want to be bumpin as well. i want good deep loud bass without losing SQ. the installer recommended JL w3's?

The subwoofers NS recommended are actually right around the price of the w3's. JL IMO is way overpriced. BUT I am by no means an audiophile like NS, but most of the stuff he has recommended is not that much more expensive than regular prices of some of the more mainstream brands.

Of course. I had the JL W3 recommended to me as well.

The W3 has about 300W power handling capability and I guarantee does not sound as good as the Mag. Trust me. If you want sound quality, get the Mag. If you want to bump, you'll need a custom enclosure large enough to support the subs that really pound (and you'll need a LOT more money for amps/subs).

The guy at Best Buy is going to recommend what he sells. Period. Not because it's the best on the market - but because A)it's what he sells and B) he's very likely bought into the marketing hype (see my previous posts about Alpine's marketing hype)

I agree with this. I work at Best Buy as an installer and I bought only alpine decks since I have been working there. Part of it is that their decks IMO have some of the best looking displays (I'm kinda shallow I guess), while some of the better sounding decks don't look as nice. I am only now finding out that I really want something that sounds better, rather than looks better. I also didn't have much experience with any other brands since that is what BBY sells. BUT there is a harshness to the sound that I just noticed since reading these boards (never really paid attention before), and my X100 only has 2v pre outs which is gay, while the Eclipse NS recommended has 5v preouts (or 8v on the 7200).

Given enough power, the Mag will move the hair on your head (500W is sufficient, 1000W will def do it). It won't have the "thump" sound that you're used to associating with subwoofers though.

Check out the forums. There is a wealth of info there on SPL builds.
