Alpine iDA-X100 = More Static?
Try reinstalling it and see if your radio stations come in more clearly. If they do, take the HU back and get a new one.
note: there can be a bit of difference between aftermarket and stock HUs when it comes to radio reception. How much depends on many things including how far away the radio towers are...

do you mean reinstall the stock HU or the inline antenna amp to the aftermarket HU? (im not sure what an inline antenna amp is so...) im pretty sure if i reinstall my stock HU i wont get any static
i was thinking about returning the HU and getting a new one. with my stock HU very rarely did i ever have a problem with reception. and now with the x100 its rare that i can go 30 seconds without hitting some sort of static.
i want to keep my x100, but now i am thinking of replacing it with the alpine CDA-9886 because of this radio problem. but i really like how the x100 is so ipod user friendly compared to the 9886. the x100 not being able to play CD's doesnt really bother me since my main music source is my ipod. i would just hate it if i went with the 9886 and had the same problem accruing when playing the radio. they told me that aftermarket HU can experience a loss of reception, but im thinking with the amount of static i get it cant possibly be that much loss of reception

Although, personally, I'd move over to Pioneer Premier.
The bottom line is that nearly any Alpine, Eclipse, or Pioneer HU you buy today will have Ipod controls (Eclipse requires an adapter box).
However, Alpine is known for it's bright sound (very harsh at 3-5KHz range). Pioneer is probably the warmest tone. And Eclipse is closer to the middle, leaning towards the warmth of the Pioneer sound.
LOL...because then it wouldn't be a car audio install, yo.
1st amp/sub/HU I ever installed...my buddy helping me informed me that there are 2 rules to installation:
1: It will NEVER work right the first time (or VERY rarely). There's always some wire you missed, some connection that's not right, etc.
2: Blood, sweat, and perhaps a few tears will go into an install (and, ya know...it's infrequent that I can do an install and not get a few scratches...)
