hello everyone. i had bought a alpine headunit off a friend of mine who works for a car audio shop. he installed the hu, and it works just fine- but we can't get the modifry dci to work. we wired it correctly, and even tried the dip switche's settings recommended for the version, and past versions (turned power off each time). the mute is working, as we hardwired it fine, just seems that the dci is dead. we tried scanning the headunit while pushing buttons, and tried both sides of the IR (tried the top left area the most). do alot of people get theirs DOA? id like to get this fixed so i can enjoy my mp3s with the top down ! thanks

It could be for a number of reasons, and I could only speculate as to what that problem may be. Assuming the wiring is correct, it could be the DCI itself.

Have you called the gofast lab and reported your problem? I would find modifry and pm him with your concerns, if anyone would know how to fix it it would be the man who built it.

BTW This is the first case of DOA DCI that i know of.

 

I had the same problem when I installed my w/alpine. I had mine wired wrong and all that worked was the mute. I wish I could remember what wire's were wrong but I did the install 2 years ago. I debugged mine by switching some of the wire's till it worked.
Keep at it.

 

Did you try the stock Alpine remote on the HU? Just to confirm that it's not the IR on the HU that is bad. If the mute works, then it might just be the IR transmitter from the DCI. Do you have any of those Leapfrog or Radio Shack remote extenders around? If you do, you can hold the IR transmitter in front of the remote extender and try sending a signal to it from the DCI. The extender's LED will flash everytime it recieves an IR signal. That's all I can think of this early in the morning.

 

well i cant seem to find my remote but the headunit is so new theres not even a scratch on the screen yet. im positive that the remote would have worked. im not the wiring guru like my friend from the audio shop, but he keeps telling me that the wiring is flawless and still no signal. i looked up on the forum and another member got a DOA dci too. i pmed modifry but no reply yet. we didn't cut and splice the stock harness, just the aftermarket one we got from s2ki marketplace- but i think thats the advantage of that harness (not having to cut the stock one). anyone have pictures or anything that can help me? thanks

what head unit do you have?? 9835?? i know a few friends of mine had / still have issues with the DCI

update: i contacted modifry on the 16th and he said he'd ship me out a dci on monday. its tues now and i havnt gotten a reply from my last pm. ill post how it goes, and if the DCI works well with the HU if i receive a replacment.
