alpine system upgrade
hi,
i currently have an alpine pdx-2.150 paired with type r components up front, and am contemplating adding a sub since i can't turn it up past 20 w/o the bass distorting the 6.5"s. it's just not loud enough for me with the top down on the highways, and i think having a dedicated sub would help alleviate the bass stress from the 6.5"s allowing me to crank it up more. i would sell my current amp and then upgrade to the pdx-4.150, bridging the 2 extra channels with a 10" type r sub. my question is, does it matter if i get the 2ohm or 4ohm sub? the pdx amps support both ohms, and i'm not an electronics guru.
if anyone's interested in my 2-channel pdx amp, PM me! i've only had it for a few months and it is in mint condition with box and all.
thanks in advance!

I would stick with 4-ohm. I believe that the circuitry inside the PDX amps is similar to the JL amps in that is produces the same power at 4-ohms as 2-ohms. I would run 4-ohms has it will be less "stress" on the amp and it will be running at lower temps.

Can you adjust any high pass filters? I have mine set just low enough to get good sounding bass without any distortion at a very high volume.
This might seem to take away from the bass you are hearing, but it's a possible solution if you don't really want to add a sub.

oh man, thanks daktruckie, i totally forgot to revisit the amp settings.
the type r 6.5" components are rated 65Hz-27kHz, so i set the amp to high-pass filter with the crossover frequency to around 80Hz, which removed most of the deeper bass that was causing the distortion. i'll wait for another day to blast it with the top down to see how that is.
thanks again for the replies!
