Alpine Type R front speaker install
Just a breif walkthough on the front speaker replacement I did on my AP1 today. I recently puchased a set of alpine typeR two way speakers to replace what I beleived were factory speakers.
After romoving the door panel, existing speaker and speaker basket I examined to see if the new speaker would fit.

The ridges inside the original basket would not allow the built in crossover on the speaker to clear.
I then decided that It woudl be best to slightly modify the mounting bracket supplied by Alpine.

The pertrusoins on the back side of the bracket had to be grinded off for propper fitment.
After modifying the Alpine bracket small holes were drilled after marking holes for the bracket on the door.

After drilling the holes the long screws supplied with the speakers were used to mount the speaker and the bracket to the door.

I chose to solder the wires to the back of the speaker for a more durable connection with less interference.
There were absolutely no clearance problems using this method. Speakers sound great. I can actually cruise at speed with the top down and listen to the stero now.

Still using the factory HU at this point. I've had it up around 75mph top down and still can hear the radio. There is a very significant improvement in sound depth as well as base and highs. Previously I coudn't hear the radio at all with the sound all the way up around 50 or 55 mph.
