Did you supply power to the amplified antenna?

The stock HU has a power lead that supplies 12V power to the antenna. That's needed to boost the AM signal. With aftermarket HUs, you don't always retain that power lead. Without power, the antenna doesn't get you AM very well.
On the wiring bundle behind the HU, you should see a YEL/GRN wire. This wire needs 12V power that comes on when the radio is on.

Did you use the harness adapter for honda? I had this same problem a few weeks ago with my new alpine. You should have a power antenna wire coming off the alpine harness that came with the radio. Hook that wire to the power antenna wire on the honda harness adapter and it should work. Our antenna needs some power for it to work well and that wire is what does it.

Alpines will not turn on if the antenna is NOT plugged in and powered. So if it turns on, youre powered.

(unless we are talking about two different things)
