Default AM Radio does not work.

I installed a Kenwood Exceleon HU that I had in the closet into my wifes 2004 Matrix.

Everything works as it should except the AM band. Nothing pulling in at all.

Used a Metra 70-2003 wiring harness and the only things I did not connect to it from the HU were the Solid Blue -(cant recall) and the Blue/White -(amp turn on).

The Metra had an Orange left (illumination) and I do not recall if there was another.

Any EJ's able to help me out?

Is the antenna wire plugged all the way into the headunit? If so, does the matrix have a powered antenna like the S2000? If it does, it is possible that the FM signals are strong enough to be heard without the antenna amp, but the AM signal is not. If you have not hooked up the turn on lead to the matrix's antenna power wire, it will not function. Also, have you checked all the AM stations? Some may be just not coming in.

You may be right. It is not motorized but may be a power antenna.......did not seem like I had a way to wire it in the harness though. Will need to pull the HU again I spose.

Any idea if the antenna apapter could be the culprit?

Metras web site shows 2.
A 40-GM10 and A 40-GM20. I am using the 10.

my quick read of the descriptions are that one is for hooking up the
factory antenna to an aftermarket headunit, and the other is for
hooking up an aftermarket antenna to the factory headunit, so I'm
sure you have the right one, otherwise neither end would have fit!

For what its worth I plugged the solid blue from the HU into the blue/white(amp turn on) of the Metra.......Voila! AM radio. Looks like the Matrix IS a powered antenna and the Metra is not quite right on their color coding.

Thanks for the replies regardless.

Thats what I figured. Metra is decent, but not perfect. Glad to see you got your AM back.
