Default Amp connector question...

What kind of connector do I use for my amp?

The screws are turned with an allen wrench. It seems like it should be something with a nut on the end but I have never seen anything like that.

Thanks,

jd

Remove insulation of the wire you're going to insert. Insert into the hole and screw down. no wire connector needed

Personally, I prefer not to stick bare wire into those holes due to the possibility of individual strands breaking loose and creating short circuits down the road. Look for heavy-duty posts (don't get the tiny ones) for speaker cables...they look like a solid piece of stiff wire, usually gold-plated. At the very least, tin the wire to prevent loose strands from popping out (which is what happens when you twist a screw onto a bare wire without first wrapping it around the post).

Good idea, but then you get into the issue of solder rot (which comes with time and moisture), which could make for an intermittant connection.

Nevr had an issue with solder rot. But I HAVE had issues with shorts due to loose strands...they usually weren't pretty.

When you trim the shielding only trim back enough so that it butts up against the connector. Twist the wires together with your fingers and you should not have any wires sticking out because they will be too short and the shielding is blocking them from being exposed.

If you look at your pic, the shielding should be inside the plastic part but stop at the copper/gold part.

PS make sure you have a fuse near the battery to protect against short circuits.
