Default Head unit - Amp upgrade / amp & speakers

I'm not sure if it's the head unit I have in the car or the speakers but I *need* to do something about the sound system in my car.
The head unit I've got probably isn't the best for audio as it's a combined sat nav / CD player : Blaupunkt Travelpilot E1

Try as I might I just can't get a good sound (subjective I know) but as soon as I start going at any speed the volume goes up and any kind of bass is distorted (and this is with no extra bass). The result is that it has to be turned down. Not a problem with the roof up but with the roof down I can't hear it.

So....I'm thinking a smallish amp will probably improve the situation and take the load from the head unit.
But...do the speakers need an upgrade too? I can't believe Honda would make a car which had unusable speakers when the roof is down!

Cheers,

Rob

Rob, do you have any pics of the speakers/dynomat once installed?

Where's best (cheapest) place to buy dynomat?

Do you mean Rob or me (Craig)? If me, check my ICE photo album (again, in my sig). There are no photos of the Dynomat on my door panels IIRC but no great surprises - just a door panel which looks like a Turkey to go in the oven
