Default Amp Question

So I hooked an amp up and am running an Ipod off it w/o a headunit. My question is when I first hooked it up the amp wasn't turning on then i put power to where the headunit wire should go and it worked. Is it bad to run it this way, will I ruin something, and is there a better way to do it?

Thanks, Alex

Yes it is, unless you ran it to the ACC wire, which will shut the amp off when the car is off. However, its still a weird way of doing it. Why dont you have a headunit?

Its in a friends GEM car which is a street legal golf cart and we wanted to do it clean and simple so nothing would be visable to get stolen.

You could run power through a relay which is switched by the turning the key on. Will that work for you?

or just set up an inline switch from a 12V source to the remote turn on. but if you forget the switch on, it will drain your battery.

no problems doing this aside from battery drain issues if you leave the amp powered on.

on an out of the box clever idea.
