Audio Dash Controls not working with OEM CD player
Car: 2006 AP2
Purchased the car and it had an aftermarket Pioneer headunit with plug and play adapter harness to plug into stock harness.
Today i purchased a OEM S2000 head unit and it came out of a 2005 AP2.
Installed the OEM head unit and it works, no issues.
Here is my issue.....OEM Audio Dash Controls do not work. They light up but that is all. Press any of them and they do nothing. Mute does not turn green and none of the dash control buttons do anything to the OEM Radio.
What I have done so far and everything looks how it should:
checked all relays
checked all fuses
checked all harnesses
My multimeter battery died so I couldn't check the resistance at the dash control switch like the OEM Helms manual suggests on page 22-80
Anyone experience anything of this sort?
Does the audio dash control just fail like that?
Does a 2005 oem S2K radio not control the audio dash switches on a 2006?

there is no reason an '05 radio shouldn't work in an '06.
the dash buttons (other than the mute button) are just a resister array,
and are unlikely to fail. I believe the mute button should turn green even
if there is no radio attached, so the first thing I'd guess is that the connector
to the dash switch assembly has come disconnected.
otherwise check the harness connectors carefully for bent pins, and the
presence of the correct wires (green/red for dash switch, yellow/blue for
mute, at least in an AP1) in case someone foolishly hacked up the car's
harness at some point.

The green plug that goes to the dash controls was plugged in and all pins were good when testing. Also the #3 GRN/RED and #14 YEL/BLU are in tact. I need to check continuity between GRN/RED at the radio and GRN/RED at the Dash Controls. The relay for the mute switch has a good working relay which is WHT/RED.
I was thinking there was maybe a relay or fuse blown. But according to the schematics, if that was the case, the radio itself would not turn on.
Does anyone have a known working Audio Dash Control I can BORROW to test it?
I think the multimeter is the way to go...
check the resistance from the grn/red in the harness to ground while
pushing various buttons. If you get readings anywhere significantly
less than infinite, I'd think the headunit is the problem, otherwise you'll
need to pull out the control again and check it and the wires leading to it.
you can check to see if there is voltage on the mute wire, but be careful
because if you accidentally ground the mute wire you'll blow the mute
circuit. Personally I wouldn't bother unless you get the other dash switch
working and mute is your only problem.
