I am looking to swap out my head unit for an Alpine minidisc unit. I had a full system with a minidisc unit installed in my last car but I sold that. I would like to do that again with this car but I was forced to purchase the changer option since it was already installed.

My question is, does anyone know where to get an Alpine md unit that would also be compatible with the stock cd changer? I figure I would get Alpine since the changer itself is also an Alpine.

As an alternative, I would also like to know if a Sony md unit could be hooked up to the stock changer somehow.

Ideally, I would like to get a Sony md unit since they are the only one's on the market that offer MDLP in the car unit. MDLP for those who don't know is the new feature that allows the unit to record in layers of up to 4. This allows 320 minutes of recordable space in 1 80 minute minidisc. I have MDLP in my home stereo and thus would like to have it in my car. If anyone knows how to hook up the stock changer to the Sony head unit, let me know.

Thanks all.

It was my understanding that Alpine is the OEM manufacturer of the stock unit. An aftermarket Alpine CD changer should work on the stock deck. I cannot say for sure if the reverse is true. That might help, but I understand that it doesn't answer your question.

I believe only two pins are swapped between the Alpine M-Bus and the Honda OEM changer. So the adapter must work both ways. Make sure your mdisc alpine unit is m-bus. Ai-net is a different ball game.
