Audio help needed: Questions 1) I have a 2001 S2000 and want to upgrade the sound system. What systems out there deliver the best sound while at the same time require the least modification to install? I would like to be able to simply replace existing components with upgrades. 2) Does anyone have any experience with satellite radio?

 

I also have a 2001 and have been after a similar answer, but your question leaves a bit to be desired. There are three essential upgrades as I see them:

1. Head Unit
2. Quality 6.5" drivers to replace the stock ubits
3. Amplifier to power those 2 new speakers

Optionally you might want to add a subwoofer to really add a full sound, and that will require a second amplfier.


For a basic system upgrade prices look like this:

1. HU ~$200-$300
2. Coaxial drivers ~$150-$250
3. Amplifier ~$200-$300 (2x75w)

And you can add wiring, and install costs to this. This will give a significant boost in sound quality and quantity.


For something a bit more than average:

1. HU ~$350-$500
2. Component drivers ~$300-$600
3. Amplifier ~$350-$600 (2x150w)

4. Subwoofer ~$200-$400
5. Subwoofer amplifier ~$300-$400


There are certainly exceptions to all these prices and schemes, you can buy off Ebay and save money, you can by used, you could buy top of the line equipment and spend 3-5x as much, etc.

But those are the basics. Others will chime in I am sure.
