Audio Setup ?'s
Hi - This is my second post here on S2Ki and I am currently a Integra owner but I am finally getting my S in August. I have a couple of questions. I am currently running a decent sounding system in my 'teg and when I get my S I wish to vastly improve this situation. I am thinking about running these products:
Alpine CDA-7893 (already own) link
PPI PCX-5800 5-Channel Amp link
Focal Utopia 165W3 link
JL 10W6v2 link
I will be running (probably) the focals by bridging the the front and rear for 100W per channel. Now a couple of questions.
1. Will the Focals up front be enough sound while driving at highway speeds with the top down?
2. Focal Mid-Range placement - In custom kick panels or in the rear via Lucid's Mod?
3. Will the Sub be loud enough at the same highway speeds? Should I try to fit two in the trunk well?
4. Will the PPI fit to the left of the spare tire?
Thank you very much for your responses.

Before I bought I was considering Boston Acoustic vs. Focal for components, and also looking at PPI amps. I chose the BAs because their Pro Series set is 3 Ohms, yielding almost 50% more power from an amp compared to a standard 4 Ohm speaker. Because of this, I could step down to a PPI-480 (4 x 80 at 4 ohms) and save a few bucks, plus its smaller for installation (I desire complete stealth). Instead of the rated 80 per channel, it puts out roughly 120 watts RMS into the 3 Ohms component set, and the other two channels can bridge to a single 4 Ohm sub which should yield 320 watts RMS (in the near future).
As for sound quality differences between the Bostons and Focal, I can't say. I'm sure they're both very good, but I haven't heard the Focals personally.

Focal speakers kick ass...had them in my eclipse and bringing them over to the S...one peice of advice i can give you (if you dont already know) is mounting the tweeter directly over the speaker. You can just use a metal peice and bolt it directly on there..gives great sound.

Focals or Diamond Audios are the best choice for a high end system, Utopia is kinda overkill, I doubt you'll hear the difference over the PolyKs. W3s is well over a grand and the midrange won't fit the rear you'll have to be creative.
Rears are a must for any system. Diamond's for example, have tuned output on both crossovers for rear fill on their systems. (Only 4.5" Diamond Audios Speaks will fit the rear).
No that amp won't fit over the tank, its almost 2ft long. Look into Kenwood excelon 5 channel x650d i think it is. Its A/B for 4 channels and class D for the mono sub.

i'll repeat the rec. on focals, great speakers, but make sure you give them enough power. i just went from 50RMS -> 90RMS and they sound even better now.
That amp is huge! if you're only going to run 3 channels, then I suggest you get a strong 4 channel amp (like 4X125) and bridge channels 3+4
here's one i like. check out the olympus.

4X125RMS, if you bridge channels 3+4 you get 400watts for a subwoofer. it's also stable at 2Ohms and a really nice amp. I just picked up one of the lower line zeus amps and love it!
