AUDIO upgrade parts HELP PLEASE!
hi everyone...
before hand i must thank you for taking the time to read this and helping me out.
i have an 04 s2k, but my stereo is in shambles. the oem unit cracks, pops and sounds awful. the volume control is basically non functional (i have to crank it to 40 to even hear clearly through the cracking and popping of the blown speakers)
i need some advice on a new stereo upgrade. i have noticed that alot of guys use alpine HU's. is there a reason for this? i've always used kenwood excelon series head units in previous cars with good performance. nothing spectacular, just the run of the mill blow out your ear drums on stock speakers and 2 12" boomers with a mono amp. it served the 20 year old me well back then. now i m looking for something more sophisticated..
i have been looking around and i guess i want to know whats a good set up for the s2000? i assume an upgraded HU (what brand, model etc) with an amp to for each channel (how many speakers/tweeters and what size? components? 6x9? ) cross overs and a sub (brand, how many, size and any other technical info.. ) would do it? its been a while since i've tinkered with the audio department so be gentle! =) this is a project of mine so its not daily driven. right now it sits with the HU pulled and console taken apart.
any takers? guide me the way.
thuxuriously yours

Dont spend alot on the HU, spend alot on the door speakers and amplifiers. Then focus on the subwoofer and a practical way to mount it. I've almost fully dynamatted my trunk, and that makes a difference.
I used alpine HU, focal speakers, infinity subwoofer, and ppi amps.

Speakers: Polk db6501 - you don't need to modify the stock mounting location. here is an install writeup https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/483...nent-speakers/
Head unit: I've tried many brands / models. If you find yourself using your mp3 player/phone and leaving your cd's untouched (especially if you have an iPod), I'd highly recommend the Apline iDA-x305s. It doesn't have a cd player (but you can buy one to "add on" later for about 100 dollars).
Amp: JL 300/4 slash - two channels can go for the speakers and the other two can be bridged to push 150 watts for a sub. Also the slash series amps "ignore" impedance up to 4 ohms, which means you won't have to sacrifice wattage if you get a 4 ohm sub.
Sub: JL 10W0v3-4 - pretty cheap for a JL sub, good quality.
