Default Audio volume randomly lowers

Hey guys I have an Alpine 9885 unit that, for the last two months or so, has been randomly lowering its volume without indicating volume lower via display. I will be cruising along then after 20-30mins volume will slowly decrease then cease. If I turn it off for 5mins, it comes back on at the volume previously set, then after 10mins or so starts lowering again. I'm to the point where I just leave it off. I've noticed that when I am in the ON position, the volume doesn't decrease, however, when I crank up, it starts lowering after 20-30mins of being cranked. My question is if anyone else has had this issue or may know of a fix. Thanks-Justin

Are you using an external amplifier? If so, that is the first place I would check since the head unit (HU) isn't giving you any indication of the volume setting being changed, despite the volume decreasing. If you are using an amplifier and it checks out fine, I would check the speaker level outputs on the head unit to determine if the volume is being lowered there. If so, then the problem lies in the HU.

If you are not using an external amplifier, I am not sure where I would start with diagnosis. (no reason for me to post speculation here)

I don't have an amp, everything is stock except the Alpine unit :/ I was thinking maybe it is on its way out

I think I may have the same head unit (bought it used from another member shortly after I bought my S) but I had problems at the end of most songs it would suddenly turn way up. The last 1 or 2 seconds would blare and then it changed to the next song at normal volume. It turned out to be the ipod settings/equalizer.
