Aura Bass Shakers ?
Please help me out here. I don't understand the nature of these "bass-shakers". From what I can tell, they are essentially a vibrator that runs hot, but add nothing to the sound. Is that right?
Why wouldn't someone just spend the money on a speaker or pair of actual speakers that might have some chance of improving sound?

Bass, particularly really low frequencies, is more about feeling rather then hearing. Shakers step into that arena by vibrating an off-center weight. You get the same sensation as a low-frequency signal without the potentially ear damaging air vibrations.
So, shakers add nothing to the actual audible signal, but that's not necessarily needed...the sensation of vibrating airwaves by way of vibrating the body instead works quite well. These aren't meant to be used exclusive of a good speaker set, but work well in tandem.
As a side note, some of the more expensive theaters (stadiums, not movie) use sub-sonic bass tubes. These things are monsters at 15-20 feet long and several feet wide. Frequency ranges are generaly in the 3-15 Hz range (below the range of human hearing)...stand close enough to one and it WILL give you a new heartbeat. It doesn't use an off-center weight, but the sound is only FELT, not heard.

MacGyver,
I think I understand what you are saying, and I do have some background in sound reinforcement. I am aware of the bass tubes (particularly Bose's efforts) and their effects.
I guess I just underestimated the effectiveness of the "shaking". I don't play my music loud enough to damage my hearing and I am VERY sensitive to the effects having been both a DJ and producer.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
