Default auto dimmer on alpine

I was just thinking when i installed that the orange wire on my alpine harness was not used because there was not one to mate it to on the other harness. I don't recall the stock deck ever dimming when the lights were flipped on so is this just a feature????? I pulled the wire already so i can't fix it now, just wondering for future reference.

I typically don't hook up the orange wires (possible electrical nightmare), bc most radios now have either an auto dimmer built-in or some sort of dimmer control in the menu. You can hook it up as long as it's the same color (orange to orange, orange/blk to orange/blk, etc) and it will dim ever so slightly when turning on the headlights.

Yeah i got it set to be dim all the time but I'm wondering why my harness didn't have an orange wire to plug it in to....it was a metra harness

Some harnesses do, some don't. No rhyme or reason.

My Crutchfield ones don't, but the Modifry one that came with my DCI does.
