Auxiliary Input Problem (Soundgate)
Months ago I went through a very long search for a CD changer auxiliary input converter for the 2005 S2000. At the time, I did not have an iPod, so it had to be generic headphone style (RCA). I tried three different products before finding the right one (even though the online stores swore I was buying the correct one in the first place).
Finally, I get one that works, only the signal level is very low. I have to turn the volume up to MAX on the MP3 Player, and then higher than normal on the stock OEM radio.
Since then, my Creative Zen Touch broke and I bought an iPod. Now, it seems like the signal is lower in quality. I hear static (mostly from the left speaker; on 75% of all songs).
There are many potential causes.
1. File quality (Bitrate) I have had it set to rip at the absolute highest quality from day one.
2. OEM radio quality Regular CD function sounds fine to me.
3. Soundgate converter quality I think this is the problem.
When I use a cassette adapter on mother's Lexus, the sound is 10 times better than the S
Now...www.autotoys.com, or some other audio store, has a line driver advertised for $30.00 or so that will boost the signal on the external device. I DO NOT want to pay for this if it won't work. Then ship it back and hope for a refund. Do I need to get a $200 Alpine radio with external inputs on it? Then I'd need the DCI...
Please advise

i've only read/heard what i see there, as it's the first i've seen of it..
in all honesty? it sounds as if your adapter is bad.

Yeah, I actually tried a thicker RCA to 1/8 inch adapter. So far, I think the sound is better. Now, it may be my imagination, but I really do think it's a bit better. If I'm still not satisfied, I'll go with an aftermarket radio and some better speakers.
I've used a couple of these (aux input adapters) for various cars and from various brands. From what you describe you've most likely got a bad unit, or there is a loose connection somewhere. I'd recheck the installation if you can, and if that's good then give the manufacture/vendor a call and see abour a replacement.
