Best iPod adapter/head unit
I was looking into this with the Alpine decks, but some of them are limited to how long a playlist can be to display on the deck... Is that true of all Alpines, or just some models? The wording on the website was massively vague..
I've been hemming and hawing about this for the past month. I originally was going to get the neo ion, and stick with the stock HU for a while. But neo was really dragging their feet. After 2 weeks, the thing was still back ordered. Not having the ipod in the car is killing me, so I just bit the bullet and bought a new alpine HU and ipod controller.
There are 2 big complaints that people seem to have w/ the ipod interface. 1--you are limited to displaying song/track info to the first 255 songs in a playlist. So, if you have really long playlists, then you will see just track number after song 255 plays. 2--scrolling through massive lists of albums/artists/genres takes forever. There's no intelligent scrolling, so you have to push a button each time to go to the next item in the list.
Considering how I typically use the ipod in the car, i dont think these are big worries for me. I tend to work almost exclusively from playlists, which usually arent' beyond 50 or 60 songs.
Anyways, the neo costs $200. I was able to pick up the alpine HU and ipod interface combined as a special on crutchfield for $329. I think that's a way better deal. And since I plan on upgrading the other audio components eventually, this makes a whole lot more sense.
