Did you guys have to purchase the ipod interface seperately? If not with the USB port does it charge your ipod and is the scrolling as fast as it is on your actual Ipod unit?
The USB ipod interface comes with the unit, the high speed cable you have to purchase separately. The USB interface will NOT work with older ipod, only the current gen and last gen models as well as the iphone and itouch. The USB cable will allow you to plug in jump drives and smaller HD based (bus powered) storage devices. You will have to purchase the Alpine high speed cable for your older ipods. Both cable do charge the ipod and as far as scrolling speed, thats what the high speed cable is for . Its not as fast as the ipod itself but its not snail pace either.

I am currently running an Eclipse CD4000 Deck with Ipod Interface and it works great, but when you scroll through you can only see 1 song at a time, so I am considering switching to the Alpine even though my system wont sound as good cause the Eclipse has a 5v pre out.
You can see more then one song title at a time with this unit. The x001 only has 2volt preouts but you can always get an aftermarket crossover with a 5 volt line level. I had a kicker one a while back that was pretty good, I think AudioControl makes one of the best.

Yes the dash controls will work as long as you have the right adapters to do such. The Modifry plug-in-play DCI that you can get that lets your retain the controls use. Do a search there's tons of topics on it.

i thought maybe the unit came with something similar to the DCI

i wasn't really looking to upgrade my HU, just add a nice ipod interface. i think i'll end up going with the newer neo

Man I spent $700 for my head unit and interface a year ago and NOW Alpine has this, but I guess I can't complain, I was trying to avoid using a crossover due to space, i don't like anything to really show in my trunk, both of my amps are hidden, all you see is my sub and cap.

Still considering this unit though, might even put it in my IS when a install kit comes out for it.

Yeah the only direct connect piece that it comes with is the usb cable.

Man I hear ya. Back in my prelude days I sold an alpine that had 2 volt preouts for a higher model Eclipse unit that had an 8 volt preouts. Then went from that eclipse to a Clarion MAX2256 that only had 1 single 1.5 volt preout. To top that off I was running 3 sets of RCA's to my amps. So thats when I got the kicker crossover which was amazing, better sounding then anything else that had been in the car. If your thinking of a place to put one, there not very big (some) and you can mount them to the wall behind one of the seats. Also makes it easy to tune as well.
