Default Best Radar Detector

Just put a new 2005 on the road...what a great car. Before I get my first ticket doing either 10 over or 40 over (or something in between), I need to get the best detector I can buy. I'm looking at the new Escort 8500 X50 or considering Escort's custom "built-in" system for 4 times the money but would be nice not having to put it up/take it down everytime I park outside of my own garage. Any wisdom from this esteemed group? Thanks.

As a new owner, I second that. I've also heard of a battery operated Escort (I believe it was an Escort) and I'm curious if anyone has any experience with that as well.

I've heard battery powered Escort just doesn't have the consistent integrity that a direct powered one does. My local auto place said that even though it states it has a "low battery" warning...any thing less than a new battery can compromise its performance...and I can't take a chance with that!

Damn, that's no good then. I was really hoping that it would be a decent replacement due to the placement of the outlet (not looking forward to having a cord stretched across the entire cabin) as well as simplifying lockup procedure. Maybe built in is the way to go then.

I personally have the V1 (www.valentine1.com) and would never have anything else. The Passport 8500 performs as well for less. The thing I like about the V1 over the passport are the two things the passport does not have. The arrows and the bogy counter.

Here is how I installed it. http://www.s2000.org/mods/radar/

I love the V1. In fact, I have 2 V1s (one for each car and motorcycle when desired) and 2 Concealed Displays.

Get the V1
