What if It's illegal in your area?
Can the cops detect a radar detector, when it is in use,and if so,do they do it on a regular basis?
I'M a little bit scared, cause in my neck of the woods, they seize your detector, and fines can go up to $1000.

Yes they can, but more often than not, they're taken because the cop sees it. They usually don't bother with the "detector dectors" b/c it's almost a waste of time and money for the dept. Some detectors like the ones from Beltronics have "stealth" technology that suppose to make it invisible to those devices. I'm not sure how well it works though.

I personally have the V1 (www.valentine1.com) and would never have anything else. The Passport 8500 performs as well for less. The thing I like about the V1 over the passport are the two things the passport does not have. The arrows and the bogy counter.

Here is how I installed it. http://www.s2000.org/mods/radar/

I have a V1 and installed it the same way. Definitely the top pick for me. You can't do without the arrows once you get use to them. Maybe if another brand was way better or something you could debate the V1's dominance, but the fact is that it's evenly matched with the best ones and the fact that it has a bogey counter and arrows makes it the best.

The other ones just beep and your force to look everywhere for the cop. With the V1 you know exactly where he is. Also with the bogey counter, you know when it's a false signal and if you're picking up two different signals. With the others, they might announce that you're picking up K-band because of some grocery door that's close by, but not mention the fact that there is a KA-band or X-band in the area as well. This could easily let you overlook a cop in an area that you know has interference.

V1 is definitely tops here. I got the conceled display as well and put it on top of my steering collumn for quick visuals.

BTW, it's also upgradable so when it gets dated, you can upgrade it to the new model for a fraction of the cost.

Another vote for the V1 from me. My wife thought I was nuts when I bought one. A few months later she told me to trash the other detector we had in our truck and to buy a second V1.

Keep in mind that if you're on an empty road and a cop is using instant on radar no detector can save you, you've still got to drive smart.

I had a passport for 4 years. I drove for 20 minutes with the V1 and I switched.

not sure if those are stealth. I'm sure it would say it was on the company site though. So far there is no way to fight back except with a radar jammer. In reality, it's not a jammer (b/c that would be illegal everywhere). It's more of an interference device. They're worthless though in most areas. Their signals are weak and you usually give up the ability to have a detector when using those (bad trade off). The only one I'd invest in is the laser shifter. Not only does it look cool, but it suppose to work. Laser is the hardest to detect since it pretty much has to be aimed at you for your detector to pick it up.

Of course, if you're in a state where these are illegal, then the cops will probably come after you anyway when they see that their guns don't work and give you a ticket for that. In those states, I would get one installed in the car. Not the hanging one, but the one that is integrated into the car and the display is part of the dash. That way you can always tell the cops that you bought the car out of state like that and you drive with it off if they ever see it (assuming they didn't use the detector detector). In that case, tell them you have no idea how to turn it off.

Alot of the time, cops give you crap about the detector when they see it anyway in any state. I always tell them it was a gift from my brother/uncle/etc. and that I never had one until then and don't really like them.
