good points. btw, i think my hardwire (w/o the display) cost me less than $10. a cheap $3 phone cord, a $2 fuse holder, and $2 in fuses. it would be nice if it came with the detector, but for the $250 i spent for it new, i'm happy w/ what i received. also, i thought the carrying case was a pretty nicely made item.

who knows, one day i may buy a V1. hopefully it won't be due to a ticket. but my 8500 has saved me countless times.

i think both are very competant detectors. and as best i can tell, the new top line Bel is virtually identical to the 8500...

Bought a Passport SR7 w/ Laser Shifters today for $527 at a Going out of business Clearance sale.

Seemed like a good value, and my wife keeps bugging me for a Passport X50.

So, I'll give her my old X50 with the Blue LED display. My X50 has saved my butt many many times .

Hope the SR7 is as good as the X50 .

Wish me Luck!!!!

My wife and I will test to see if the SR7 can compete with her new X50.

Although I have never used the V1, I have read many reviews on Bel Pro RX65 and bought it recently. It is an excellent detector and has save my a$$ on multiple occasions. I bought it for $230 shipped from ebay. I could not justify $420+ for the V1 also. Saving the balance to buy an OEM lip.

The top of the line Bel is supposed to be pretty good.

I think your statement is hilarious though. You could not justify spending an extra $190 to get "the best" detector, but you can justify spending money on a lip that does nothing but drag the ground in low spots.

Thanks for the chuckle

Driving past the K band sign last night I got < 0.1 mile past before the 8500 stopped alerting. This detector is pretty deaf to RADAR from the rear. It will probably work better on the bike in this area.

I'm not sure I get the point of having to receive a radar alert from the rear when the radar gun is facing in the opposite direction. Are you talking about driving PAST the sign while the sign is facing away from you and not getting alerts? If so, why would you want to be alerted when the radar antenna is not even facing you to pick up your speed?

I've had quite a few cops "sneaking" up behind me on the freeway from miles back with their radar antennas facing me and I've picked them up every time from distances where I couldn't even tell it was a cop yet. I remember one time specifically when I was on a road that would go up and down with wavy hills and my 8500 would alert me for a few seconds and stop. It did this a dozen times when I finally looked in my rear view and saw a small white dot which had to be at LEAST a mile behind me. It was doing this because every time I went down one side of the hill and the cop was on the other, the road would block the signal. Slowly, but surely the alerts got more intense as this white dot became a white sedan and then became a state trooper. My 8500 detects radar from behind just fine.

A few months ago I detected cops in 4 patrol cars that had pulled over someone from about 9+ miles away a straight road with flat terrain. They must have all had their radars blasting away down the highway and with nothing to block it, I picked it up real far away.

With the rear facing antenna the V1 is much more sensitive than the 8500 to the rear - no matter which way the RADAR emitter is facing.

So not only will you pick it up sooner, with the arrows you will know that the signal is behind you. Someone who does not understand this just has not driven with a V1

Nothing wrong with the 8500 - but what I have to do when using mine is just slow down any time it is beeping since I have no idea where the RADAR is and may not know it when I pass it. With a V1 you will know right where it is and in a lot of cases I don't have to slow down.

The Valentine One has won every rear radar detection test that has been done, the last test that gave actual distances was conducted in the year 2000. Radartest.com hates the V1 and this is what they said about the V1's rear radar detection, "We found it gave anywhere from two to three times the detection range of the other units." According to the SML test, the V1 beats every radar detector by at least 2 miles in rear Ka band detection.

Check out this video to see how good the Valentine One is at detecting radar from the rear:

can some explain what all the bands are for.

notice k band seems to be for shiop doors and stuff.

what band do patrol cars send out.
what band do alarms send out
do speed cameras get detected aswell(if so what band do they run on)

use seem to always say that use turn one of the bands of,does this mean you are opening yourself up to get caught ot just know what signal a certain band is.

also am in the uk if that make a difference,

sorry for being so dumb but its somthign i have never looked at.thanks of rthe help.ta
