That sucks... I gues I am going to have to foot the heavy tab... Anyone have mounting tips??
best thing to do is hardwire to the car so you won't have the cord hanging by your e-brake and shifter and mount it on the passenger visor so it's up pretty high to catch a radar, i think it comes with a mount for that also

Ive had an Ecort Passport 8500, the thing worked well, itd go off LONG before Id ever see a cop. But everyone knows teh V1 is top of the list when it comes to radar detectors... Escort comes in 2nd... everything else just really isnt worth it.... which reminds me... what about the K40

K40 used to be great, but they've been slipping for quite a while. They were the king of "hidden installs" - for keeping a low profile.

I love my Passport 8500 x50.

The V1 is more expensive. It's physically bigger. It is reported to give more false alerts than the 8500. But it's got arrows.

The 8500 has saved my ASS several times.

i recently took a trip from ohio to nj/philly with both the 8500 and the V1 installed. The V1 definitely has better 360 range than the 8500 and goes off a lot quicker than the 8500. (depending on the location, a good 1 to 2 seconds before the 8500 does). having said that, my one grip with the V1 is the number of false signals. it picks up everything... and i mean... e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g.... 8500 was better at filtering out false signals.

you can read into that any way you would like. i will keep the 8500 (it's already hardwired in my civic), and i'll hardwire the V1 into the S this spring.

Mocky have you tried the L setting on the V1....it eliminates a ton of falsies...of course I do wonder if it misses the fuzz at all I have been using this setting for a bit now

I had the Passport 8500 and upgraded to the 8500 X50 and noticed the difference right away. I love it, and it has saved me many times. Best radar detector I have ever owned.

I would suggest either the 8500 X50 or the Valentine. You can't go wrong with either one. Just figure out what one has the features you want and how much you want to spend. I saved a lot going with the X50 and am completely satisfied. It's just as good as the V1, but it doesn't have the arrows. And yes, put it on expert mode, so you can get multiple signals and upgrade the other features (loudness, etc.).
