I am starting to write up an install, and am considering what the best method for installation is through the Firewall of our S2000's - normally I would simply punch a hole with a step bit and pull the wire, sealing back up w/ silicone, but that is just too messy for a car I plan on keeping.

Instead, I plan on pulling it through the cowling (along with the existing power wire in new split loom) and then drop through wither the driver's fenderwell or through one of the existing driver's side harnesses, integrating with the current split loom first.

So, the question is, what do you think is the best location/method and why? Or, do you think this necessitates a new hole?

 

after unwrapping the electrical tape, I had no problem pushing 4ga through
the lower grommet behind the battery, using a little cable lube. it emerges
in the perfect location to travel through the passenger kick panel & sill to
the trunk. I then ran RCAs and speaker wire through the center console.

I would do the same, if my destination was the trunk...

Right now I am looking at placing the mid/high amp under the driver's seat (just enough room after some creative work with a dremel) and the sub amp is going in near the fuel neck under the top's little cubby-well.

Going for fully stealth intall, including trunk enclosure - also want to have enough room in the trunk left over to hold a tire in case of a flat - hence the amplifier locations.

 

once it's back through the sill, it's incredibly easy to pass it behind
the vented panels behind the seat and behind the storage compartment,
or into the trunk to a distribution block behind the spare, and then one to
the gas tank amp and the other out to your underseat amp.
I'm running an above-gas-tank amp configured this way:
power in to the trunk along passenger's side to a dist. block (for when I
add a 2nd amp); RCAs and speaker wires through center console, then
entering trunk on the driver's side. RCAs and speaker wires never get near
power wires.

 

So you think snaking through behind the seats is the better route to go than through the cowling?

 

I haven't snaked through the cowling, but it can't be easier than behind
the seats! the only reason I can think of for running power down the
driver's side is if you want to run RCAs and speakers through the
passenger side instead of the console. I'm running 2 BIG rca's - one
4-channel, one 2-channel, two twisted-pair speaker wires, and an amp
turn-on lead through the center console/tranny tunnel. it would be hard to
run more than than that through the hole I used to get into the center
console, but there may be more holes, I didn't check because the one I used
was fine. but if you're going to put your crossovers in the trunk, so you need
to run 4 speaker wires forward, you might want to confirm you can get them
all through.

 

I think I may just strip the interior this weekend and do some more investigation. I know, this is all overkill, but if your gonna do it, do it right, eh?
