Print all of the instructions from modifry's website for the head unit you are looking to buy and show them to your prospective installer. Watch their reactions carefully - if you see even a hint of fear or apprehension as they read the instructions thank them for their time and go find another place to buy from/install.
The instructions that come with modifry's DCI leave very little room for doubt about what needs to be done even for amateurs and any experienced installer should see it as a simple task.

It's also the case that they did their own harness hacks on the HU install and after pulling the HU to see what I was up against I decided to bite the bullet and keep my install warranty intact. This does include that notion that they have to undo it all for free and reinstall the OEM HU electronics when I sell the car.

I am thinking of upgrading my headunit. If I buy one of their headunit and give them a Modifry DCI do you guys think Bestbuy or Circuit City would know how to install it or they would have no idea what a DCI is ?
I haven't advertised it because I'm waiting for the new wiring harnesses to arrive, but I'm going to have an optional Stereo Adapter harness for maybe $5 more than the standard one.
Right now you can buy the DCI, which comes with it's own harness, and the optional Modifry Stereo Adapter ($15), which has some extra wires for the Dash Switch and Dash Mute circuits. But you still have to splice the DCI into the stereo adapter and then splice a wire into the DCI harness and extend it over to the speed signal behind the passenger dash and find a way to tap into the speed signal wire.
The new option will be a Modifry Stereo Adapter pre-wired to the DCI harness. If you're not doing the auto-volume there is no wiring for the DCI, just plug it in and position the IR emitter (if you get the IR version). If you are using auto-volume, the new kit will come with an extra wire and all the connectors to make the T-tap to the speed signal. You run the wire, use pliers to attach the T-tap, and plug in the pre-attached connectors. No crimp tool needed. Of course you still have to wire your head unit, but the DCI will be a no-brainer.
So, to install the DCI if you pay the extra $5, at MOST you or your installer will have to wire the speed signal wire. The rest of the DCI wiring is already there, just plug it in. Might save you a few $$ on the install if they only have to do one wire. Or maybe you'll be brave enough to try it on your own. If you are not familiar with crimp connectors or solder, get a $3 screw-terminal block from Radio Shack to make the HU connections. Only tools needed are a wire stripper and pocket screwdriver. Theres a photo on my web site showing this type of install.
I expect the new harnesses to be here in a week or two and I'll have JP update the GoFast store to reflect the changes.
