Default Bridged Amp/Power Handling?

I'm sure this question is out there but I couldn't seem to find it. I had a 2002 S2000, the shop put rear speakers in behind the seats, and ran a Memphis AMP to run it. 75x4 RMS AB Full Range Amp. I'm assuming that means 75W to each speaker. Now I just got the 2006 S2000 and I want to put some of my old equipment in it. I'm ready to by a new pair of 6.5 component speakers but I dont want to go through the trouble of putting in rear speakers again. From what I'm reading I can bridge the 4 channels to 2 channels (which the amp allows) which according to the website is 230x2 Bridged mono. Not quite sure how to read this but does that mean 230W to 2 channels? So the speakers I'm looking at are the SPX-177R
6-1/2" 2-Way Component Alpine. They say Power Handling RMS 75W. (300W Peak). So what I'm basically asking is if I bridge the 4 channels to 2, how will it sound? Is that way too much power? Will it blow?

Thanks in advance for everyone's input
Stephen

You shouldn't blow speakers from to much power, usually just the opposite, not enough power.

umm.... while good intentioned Dr.E -- that's more urban legend that truth.

yes, it means you'll have 230 Wrms / channel x 2 channels.

bridging 4 channels to 2 won't really change the sound quality any noticable amount.

i wouldn't run 230 Wrms to speakers rated 75 Wrms. my personal rule of thumb for the uniniated is no more than 130% overpower. since you're asking the question, you are uniniated, so....

now, regarding Dr. Evil's statement... take a moment to read this article on the subject: http://www.bcae1.com/2ltlpwr.htm

Also, keep this in mind, which I didn't. Check your speaker specs to see if they run on 2 ohms or 4 ohms and see if your amp is compatible to that.

So since I already have this amp... I think I have only a few choices. Put rear speakers in, which I dont want to do. Leave 2 channels blank, or bridge them. What is the downful of bridging them, will I blow them right away? Anyone have any suggestions so I can keep my amp?

Thanks again

Okay, I just got off the phone with Crutchfield support, they recommend me to use the 2 channels, and just leave the other 2 channels un-connected. Anyone elses opinions?

try them w/ 2 channels on the fronts and 2 channels empty for starters. then depending on whether you are satisified w/ volume, check back w/ us and get some further input.

the upside is that the remaining 2 channels could be bridged and used for a sub down the road....
