Component/Amp combo
I have recently just purchased a set of Focal 165V2 UVs from a member on the forum, the specs of the speakers read as follows:
4ohm Impedance,
150W max power handling
75W nominal power handling
93dB sensitivity
Now I plan on running them with an XTANT A400.4 that I have (50Wx4@4ohms, 100Wx4@2ohms, or 200Wx2 bridged at 2ohms) with the signal coming from my Alpine 9830 w/ 4v pre outs. Should I wire the amp at 100x4@2ohms and keep the option of adding rear speakers? This should be more than sufficient power for these drivers, correct? TIA!

I'm not an expert in the technical stuff about sound systems [i know very basic stuff], but I'm running Infinity Kappa Perfects off an Xtant 200.2 amp and it's more than powerful enough. I think 100x4@2Ohms would be perfect. My speakers tend to distort when I'm pushing it all the way, but then it's absurdly loud anyways. Your Focals are rated a bit higher [if i remember correctly], and are better quality so I think you'll be fine.
Let us know how it sounds, I'm actually thinking of switching to the same speakers! [wanna swap?

Yeah Im pretty excited about installing all of this! Im waiting on my wiring kit from KnuKoncepts, and im going to try some BQuiet extreme that I ordered.(Im hoping its just as good as Dynamat) Now if I could just tackle my XM problem today, I have so few days off a month its hard for me to make any progress haha...Thanks for the feedback, as much as I love Infinity Im hoping these Focals are going to be perfect for me.
your speakers are 4-ohm, so your amp will deliver the 4-ohm wattage.
if you want more than 50W per channel, you'll need to bridge it.
If you run RCAs for all four channels, you can bridge it now, and if you
decide you want rears you can run it 50Wx4 without having to do much
rewiring.

Okay yeah thats what I was confused about! So Bridged the speakers will be receiving 100W because they will have twice as much resistance, correct?. If I did decide to run it at 50w x 4 channels would that be enough power to effectively run a speaker that requires a nominal power rating of 65W? I should get better sound quality if I bridge the channels and run them at a higher power output, right?
yes, sounds like your amp will do 100Wx2@4ohms. As for whether 50W is
enough power, it depends...
Your speakers are pretty efficient, and at low volumes you're using only
a tiny fraction of those 50W. The problem is, as you crank up the volume,
you start using more and more power. And the RMS rating refers to an
average, but the amount of power to produce a particular sound can vary
tremendously - a loud, low note will cause a momentary spike in output,
so even if you're listening at a volume that's only on average 25W, your
amp may not be able to produce enough power for those notes. So it
depends on how loud you like to listen, and what you like to listen to.
In any event, if you're only running two channels, there's no reason not
to bridge, and if you add rear speakers, you don't need to send as much
power to each speaker, so you may be happy with 50Wx4.
If you've wired properly, moving between 2 and 4 channels and/or
swapping out your amp for more power is easy.
