broken Focal speaker, need help
after reseach for the past 2 days, i found out that my 165w midbass is broken, i think its the +,- wire (spider?) connects to the cone part came loose. is this somthing fixable? covered in the factory warranty??
This is a fairly common failure. I've had several drivers in the past with the same problem, oddly enough two of them were Focal 8" home speakers. They sounded so good I always played them very loud and the excessive excursion just wore out the tinsel leads (the wires connecting the terminal block to the voice coil).
In some cases I have managed to repair drivers with this problem but it's usually not as good as the original because it's hard to find wire with the same flexibility as the factory tinsel. The best repairs I made used wire from CAT5 patch cords. If you are reasonably good with a soldering iron you might try to fix it yourself.
If there is no other damage to the driver you may have some luck getting them replaced under warrenty. Any of my failures were too old to bother with a warranty claim.
