As for installation, I will have it all done professionally by my friend at the stereo shop. The last two systems I had him do, I already had the components. He just installed it and tuned it correctly, especially for when I'm pushing more power to the speakers than necessary.

Should I worry if they are not "authorized" since I'll be saving hundreds over my local shop?

p.s. I don't know which Kicker amp. I'll have to ask again. It put out a lot of power for the price, but quality wasn't going to be as good as Memphis' higher quality series.
just be really careful Nate -- you're not just overpowering these speakers - we're talking double power... sure, not an impossible feat, but if you don't pay attention, you can easily fry these things...

should you be worried about them not being authorized? a bit... but if you take that money you save and are prepared to have to replace defective goods out of pocket -- then it's a gamble. i generally try to spend the extra buck or two for the higher dollar items and get them authorized. otherwise, just try to register them like they were new, and if anyone gives you grief - tell them they were gifts.

I would like to go with the Focal 165K2P's since they will be able to handle the power better, and they should sound awesome. I found them for $479 at one site (can't remember if it was TheZeb or another place). I also found them for $499 at onlinecarstereo.com. Should I go with these, or spend a bit less and go for the 165KP's? Recommendations?
honestly -- it's a shame that you can't find a set of the 165K2's. they were a good price point between the two and handled 100Wrms/channel. but, given a choice and if i had the money, i'd go w/ the K2P's. i know they are pricey, but you're way under budget now... the K2P's won't throw you over budget (as best i can see).

Hmmmmm....I read the info, but I'm still not sure about them. Seems comparable to Memphis to me. But the deal they have going is great, and I'd much rather spend $399 vs $599 for an amp.

Also, do you recommend the Focal KP or K2P speakers with the Alphasonik amp?

I was also looking at the Alphasonik PMA640HC amp (160x4 and 480x2 @ 1 ohm stereo). It's a bit more than the PMA4150, but is the extra power worth it?

So many choices.

But yes, I agree. I want to do the research now, make sure I know what I'm getting, how it will work together and have something I'll be happy with rather than kicking myself in the ass later. So definitely give me your insight.

Thanks again for all the great info! We are getting so close!

Phil, your recommendations on the Eclipse Aluminum sub model?

Nate
i'd continue to stick w/ the K2P speakers, especially given that it seems like you're going to save a ton of $$ w/ the Alpha amp.

the first amp he suggested is probably the better of the two choices. it lands you w/ 150 Wrms for the 2 fronts and then 450 Wrms for the sub.
and it lands the sub's power at 4 ohms which is a heck of a lot easier to find wiring solutions for vs the 1 ohm load... not to mention, almost any amp will run cooler powering a 4 ohm load than it will powering an equivalent power to a 1 ohm load.

it does appear though that the Alphasonik will not be 2 ohm stable on a mono bridged load... nor is it likely to scale massively... so, you have to get the Eclipse sub w/ the 4 ohm SVC. that's the model: SW8102.4
but i agree that it's a much better loading model for your speaker choices....
my experience w/ Alphasonik is minimal, but i have always heard their name revered in the 12V circles... that's about all i can tell you... though an amp w/ a hour meter is just flat out cool...
other than that -- the amp looks incredible (imo), and the feature set is very impressive... if it sounds, performs, and is reliable like it appears on paper, this is a lifetime amp candidate imo.

and finally - in case you missed it above: Eclipse SW8102.4

that should be your baby. it's a SVC 4 ohm, which should pair off nicely w/ channels 3&4 mono bridged to 480 Wrms x 1 @ 4 ohms.
(the Eclipse shows a 3.1 ohm number as a measured DC resistance and the 4 ohm is an AC impedence figure.)

Oh, OK.

I thought it the amp was 2ohm mono stable. That's why i banked on the DVC.

Okay, one other question, potential change in amps. Audison makes an "entry-level" three-channel amp that is 85x2 and 310-315 x 1. Would this be a good option? Or should I stick with the Alphasonik?

As much as we love audison, I would stick with the alphasonic. If you buy a Mercedes, dont get a C class. If you just want to sport the name in the trunk, then Audison is the way to go...

But the 3 channel LOWEST line is not very powerful (about half for the fronts) and wont even move the sub. Get the Alpha.

the Audison SRx is a nice amp -- but it's probably not your best option. it would be comparable to the other amp's your considering....

Okay, just checking to make sure!

Sounds like a plan!

Now that stereo is ready to order, what about alarms?

I always liked Viper and wanted the new autopage system.

Anyone have any recommendations on good alarms? I don't need remote start, but as an option, that's fine. I want all the basic security (hood, doors, trunk, starter kill, glass breakage, door lock controls, etc), along with a proximity sensor.
