As for the volume, I purposely asked them to set it so I could play full volume (or very close) and not get clipping, distortion or any other problems.

So on my highly-recorded CDs, I can bring the volume to 29-31 before any clipping or distortion sets in. And it's loud at this point. On lower quality CD's, I can go to full volume (33) and not have any distortion or clipping.

So, I technically could set it for more volume, but then I'd have to really watch how high I turn it up.

I do this as a safeguard for myself, as after driving and listening to the music at high volumes, my hearing tends to degrade slightly (I'm sure everyone's does), and I can't tell that something is distorting, or there is too much wind/road noise, and I am not sure if there is distortion or just other noise.

So it's mainly for my benefit. They had it tuned differently before.

Of course, I may upgrade to the Focal 165KP's after this weekend. We'll see.

And I'm still thinking of swapping the Clarion 745 for the Alpine 9831.

Only thing Alpine doesn't have that the Clarion does is 24 bit decoding/converstion?

 

Of course, I probably have damaged hearing from years of loud music.

 

holy shiet, you really listen to your music loud. I'll listen to yours on Sunday, if I still have hearing after I get out of your car.
