no... while it's not my primary preference - i have nothing against D class amps for subs... they really are a great solution w/ their high efficiencies and cool running.

now, if they were using T-class amps for highs, i'd dismiss these guys faster than a fart in a hot tub.

i'm going to check out the reviews of this MMATS gear, and actually, i also like the JL gear, but it tends to be a bit pricey at times...

JL? Pricey? What?

Nakamichi tends to be pricey. JL I can live with.

Their products are highly touted by shops and rich kids.

Keep in mind that JL pays the highest sales commission in the biz, therefore thier price point is drastically inflated.

IMHO, You can get more for your bucks with other brands. However, JL does make great stuff, but doesn't live up to the hype and price. two more pennies.

well, we need someone to try 'em. They look killer, but untested. I'm sure they are good as folk though.

Good info! Thanks once again.

I've been looking into various stuff and also considering price factors.

Headunit:
I will either go with the Alpine 9831 or the Clarion 745. I'll most likely go with the Alpine, as I like what it offers for the price.

Component speakers:
I'm sticking with the Focals. My only problem is figuring out if I should do the 165KN polyglass or the kevlar KP or K2P's. Obviously, I need more power for the kevlar speakers. Whereas, with the polyglass set, I can easily get away with a 75x4 amp and power them correctly. The kevlar series take more power and have higher limits (and cost more). So I'm a bit unsure if I should stick with polyglass or go up to kevlar. Is the sound quality that much better with the kevlar series?

Sub:
I'm still considering doing an Eclipse 10" sub, but my local shop recommended the SW series because the aluminum and titanium series require quite a bit of power to get them moving (>400w), and the enclosure would need to be bigger.

My other option is the JL stealthbox, but I'm not sure if it's worth the price (even if not paying MSRP), and I've heard that it doesn't fit as perfectly as it should. Another shop recommended "bass shakers" under the seats. I have heard of these (someone mentioned them), but I don't think it will give me the sound I want.

Amp:
I'm still a bit unsure of what would be best for my application. I'm still thinking of the JL 500/5, Diamond 75x4, Memphis Baby Bell 75x4, 400x1 and maybe the Phoenix Gold or Soundstream?

My local shop put together a couple suggestions/options as follows:

HU: Clarion 745
Speakers: Focal KP
Sub: Eclipse SW 10" with custom enclosure
Amp: (they suggested one of the following)
1) Kicker (4 channel, can't remember which one, only $399!)
2) Memphis Baby Bell ($599) - They recommend this one the most for price/quality/sound.
3) Audison (too pricey for me to consider)
4) MMATS (also a bit too pricey)

I also considered going with the JL or PG and bringing it to them for installation.

Those are brands they carry. I would have it installed there, but obviously, their prices for equipment is more than if I bought it online. Only problem with buying online is that I may not get warranties or get them from an authorized dealer. Yes, I can easily save hundreds buying it online, but what if something busts or needs repair? I'm screwed. The shop would replace anything right away. So is it worth buying from the shop and having them try to match price? Or just save the money, buy everything, and have my friend install it?

So figure......

300 for Focals
350 for Alpine Headunit (my pick)...just make sure you need all the features, otherwise, just get a 9827....IMHO, you dont need ANYTHING else if you dont do rear speakers.

Go for it!

I've got the KP's if that has any bearing on your decision.

I just couldn't bear spending $500 on fronts in a car without good sound insulation, or for that matter a top. I'm sure there's a difference, but c'mon, it's a convertible after all. I would think that road noise will kill most of the subtle improvements in SQ. The KP's will be plenty loud if amped properly, and you seem to be going down that path...

good wiring for this setup is gonna be more than $50 BTW.

You're going to have a sick system. When you're done, and i'm done, we will have to compare the Ti's and the Xenon.
