Sarek: Actually don't let the pics fool you, the LED light bar is really FOCUSED light...for some odd reason my digital camera makes it look spread out but in reality the light points directly the the plate only!

The first pic has just the OEM bulb replacement with a 194 wedge bulb that has 3 surface mounted LED's. It gets the job done but not on par with Lexus in my opinion.

Never being one to leave things alone I want it perfect so I'm going to remove the stock light assembly completely and fabricate a black ABS bracket to hold the light bar. It will be tucked up in the hole so it's not visibile just like the OEM light but will fire all those LED's directly into the plate area so should be super white, super bright when I'm done.

All the wiring will just tap into the OEM 12 volt wiring so that should be a cinch. Hardest part will be find a secure way to mount that LED bar.

pikkashoe: The 997 headlight is a fully removeable unit with ballast, all wiring sealed into the housing. Awesome german engineering. There is no wire harness since it plugs into a socket mounted behind the headlight. As for the locking mechanism, you need a special tool to release the clip that holds it in place. You only need to pop the "hood" to gain access to it so yeah I can see it being an easy target for theft since the special tool is in the hood area. Any P-car owner will know this...

S4play,

Yeah Ive noticed the socket in the rear, and the little metal bar. In every occurrence I see, they pop out the light via the front corners of the fenders and damage the fenders in the process. I think the Cayman is even worse, I had one last week where they did not even damage the fenders at all!!! I guess only that little bar holds them in place. At least our's dont get stolen.

We were just talking about the theft possibility since easy for us also means easy for thief!

I was complaining what a PITA it was to remove the s2000 light - guess now I feel a bit better

Yeah our light is bolted down by like 6 bolts.

Lights are safe, seats on the other hand are fair game to thiefs. Oh well.

Picture.

Once again, its really tough to capture how it is in real life. This is the best one I can get. Its the same blueish light, but you can tell on the ground below how much more light is cast from the new bulb.

New Bulb

Old Bulb for comparison

Yeah its tough to recreate the exact way it looks to our eyes thru a camera.

And I am using a Canon 30D with $1000 lens.

By the looks of pikkashoe's pics, the superstar is brighter than the matrix, but they're about the same bluish color.

Sarek, your pictures make the matrix look more white. Is that what you saw, or is the picture color a little off?

I don't necessarily want super-ultra-bright bulbs, but I want something that is white and not yellow or blue.

(You really know you're anal about your car when you start worrying about the color of your license plate bulb)
