Can we hardwire a PDA and TomTom?
I just got a Palm Tungsten E2 and TomTom combo and am looking to hardwiring at least the Tungsten portion. I was wondering if anyone had done this before and how? I mean if it's even possible. I've done the searches and have seen the hardwiring of the radar detectors and other things, but not a palm, yet.
I was thinking I could buy another home recharge power wire, cut it, and somehow hardwire it to the car, which would be cleaner since I won't have the cig lighter charger running thru my car. I already know how to run the wires, I just need to know if it can be done and how. I know the plugs for the palm and tomtom bluetooth receiver are unique but if I could hardwire them both, that would be sweet.
Hopefully some of you electrictronic gurus can answer my question.

For my Garmen, i didn't want to cut the power cord in case i ever wanted to use it in my other vehicle, so i just got a female power socket from radio shack and wired that up. Plugged the garmen into it and hid the whole assembly behind the dash.

This extra female socket approach is really a better solution than a direct hardwire, for two reasons:
First, it's more flexible -- you can put a couple of sockets on there or switch out gadgets on the one (assuming they're all low-amp trickle chargers).
Second, some 12-V adaptors for these gadgets have electronics in the plug end to do the 12V -> whatever conversion. Cut these off and do a direct wire, and you'll fry the gadget. HPH

Thanks for the answers guys! Could you guys go into a bit more details on the wiring though? What did you connect etc? I already have my amp remote wire hooked up to the ACC prong under the dash. Also, that female power socket at radio shack, does it have a fuse? And how did you hardwire the GPS receiver since mine's uses a mini USB to charge.
I was also thinking maybe I could hook up another cig lighter hidden under the center console so the power wire that came with my kit can reach both the palm and the GPS receiver.
OK, went to the shack and could not find the female power socket. Asked for help, but they didn't know what I was talking about...frankly neither did I. So, if you guys could give me a SKU or find it online for me, that would help me a lot!

The part in your link isn't the one i used although it looks like it would work fine. I couldn't find the one i used but it comes w/ an inline fuse and costs about 1/2 as much b/c it doesn't have banana plugs/spades which you won't be using anyway.
Mine is wired from the ACC power on the fuse box. As long as none of the devices draw a ton of current you'll be fine pulling power for multiple devices from there. I've got my radar detector, nav system, plxr500, g-sensor and a couple fans all pulling power from it, w/o any problem whatsoever.

OK, I found this http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.js...ctId=2062272&cp and this http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.js...ctId=2062277&cp Now if only they combined it. I'm sure that's what I'm looking for, right? Anyone else know of other stores where I can score something like this?
