easy way to find out. put the car on neutral, pull the ebrake up (he connected a thing to mine so it wont work unless the ebrake is up) and step on the clutch. push the * on ur alarm remote twice and see if it starts

There was talk (maybe even an execution) about a sensor that would not start the car unless it was in neutral.

Anyone remember that?

That would be me.

I posted some pics a while back but since my old web hosting company departed the planet I'd have to do some searching to find them again. The neutral switch wasn't very high-tech, just tedious to install and adjust. The high-tech part was adding additional safe-guards - motion sensor and E-brake switch to prevent remote start or shut down the engine if it's already started. Chances are the E-brake connection described by C4SxM5 will allow remote start with the brake up one click, and that's not enough to stop the car from moving. Mine won't start unless the brake is fully engaged (and in neutral), and will shut down if the brake is taken off, the shifter is moved out of neutral, the brake pedal is depressed, or if the car rolls more than an inch.

Ha! Found them. Here's the magnet mounted to the shift lever

Heres another view showing the magnet's proximity to the reed switch

And here's the reed switch assembly.

Its possible although I do not know how. My friend had it in his MY00. He had a clifford 16 channel alarm. He could roll down his windows or close them, up or close his top with a seperate button, lock and unlock, autostart, turn proximity sensors on and off, voice alarm on and off, and all that jazz

Looks like a one-off thing to me...but everything has a price.
