In Car PC?
Now before everyone jumps on me for this one, I'd only do this project if:
1) It were lightweight.
2) It were compact.
I've been looking at an amazing install over at Audiworld:

and have been thinking that some of these features would be simply outstanding in my S2000.
I've been looking at www.mini-itx.com for miniature boards and whatnot, but was wondering if anyone has ever undertaken this kind of project in any of their cars?

Due to the fact that I am a retard and get lost all the time. I wanted navigation really badly. However, a NAVI + screen is about 3500 bucks. So, sooner or later, I will put a PC in my car.
I will use a xenarc touch screen monitor mounted (cut a hole) on the right side of the climate controls. The PC itself will be put into the spare tire well....and bolted to the car. I will be looking for a case, hard drive stabilizers, etc in the next month or so. If you know how to build a computer, you can do this project in about 8 hours. You can also have XP boot up in about 12 seconds. On top of that, you can monitor EVERYTHING that goes on in your car....etc.......
When I start the project, I will put every detail on the boards so you guys can get some info.
Good luck!

Cool!
I think I'm going to go this route too after talking to some local S2k'ers.
I'm piecing the system together bit by bit, ultimately I don't want a seperate head unit either.
EDIT (Wrong URL): www.mp3car.com is an excellent resource.

I just scanned across this thread.. but one of my accounts builds onboard PC's for automobiles... www.microbus.com
I was looking at this also. You might not have to do anything special, since these guys already spent the time to "ruggedize" the PC's and integrate the touchscreen LCD's.
