Default Charging Phone Through USB in Radio

Hi All,

If I buy a radio with a USB input, will I be able to use this to charge my Iphone? Does anyone have a unit that they recommend that provides enough power?

The newer Kenwoods supply more current (1.5A) than their older ones (1A) but obviously won't be as fast as a dedicated charger providing 2.4A would be. Quick Google search seems to show that the newer Pioneers stop at 1.5A too.

Thanks! I am fine if its is slow, even if it just holds the charge id be OK with that. My cigarrete charger is busted and I got quoted about 100 for repair. I might as well buy a 100 dollar radio, since I also need a new radio anyway.

"Preamp Output Level" refers to the strength of the audio signal being sent through the preamp outputs to an external amplifier and has no relationship to how much power is being sent to the USB port.

Crutchfield is a good place to research individual head units, for example this is the details page for the Kenwood KMM-BT322U:
https://www.crutchfield.com/p_113BT3...U.html?tp=5684

"Smartphone Charging: The head unit's USB connection provides 1.5A of current to power and charge your connected Apple iPod/iPhone or Android smartphone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position (if your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it)."

Great resource!! So I clicked down into the links until I found this: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachmen...44/unknown.png

So, it seems that each USB outlet can provide 1.5A, but my question is: If 2 iphones are connected at the same time (to USB1 and to USB2), does the unit provide 1.5A to each USB oultet, or does it get split to 0.75A each? I guess this is more of an electrical knowledge question.

Yeah sorry, really have no idea about that. That's really up to how the manufacturer decided to design and implement their head unit.
