Connecting Cooling Fans
I bought two cooling fans to help cool both my amps in my spare tire well. I talked to my stereo guy and he said I need to run a relay, so that the fans do not stay on all the time. The fans have two wires coming out of them, power and ground.
I'm a little confused on how the relay works, so if someone can help me get the wiring correct
If you are not familiar with a relay it has 4 terminals. One terminal is connected to a +12 volt power source, the second terminal is grounded, third terminal is connected to the remote wire from the head-unit, and the fourth terminal is the remote wire out.
Well, my question is do I just connect the power wires from the fans to the remote wire out from the relay, that way the fans only turn on when the head-unit remote wire sends a signal to the relay to give it power?
If someone can provide me with some better information or possible a DIY site that explains wiring in fans for a car audio setup, that would be appreciated.

Everyone probably already knows about this site.. But I've found alot of really good info here. Some of it really hard to find and there's alot of pro installers that hang there and usually pipe in with some good tips!

umm.... Dave, i'm hoping you made a typo there. you don't want them tied into the amp's remote wire (ala off the HU), as the HU isn't generally rated to provide the current required to run fans. you could (fairly easily) exceed the HU's capabilities to supply current to the amp turn on/power antenna lead, and burn it out. i have seen it happen.
Jim's diagram is the one i'd go with.
