Default Coolant temp issue

So my facelift 2005 car has a issue, when the car gets to around 93+ degrees c the bars on the temp gauge will rise indicating that the car is over heating which it is not, this is confirmed in aem ecu software, last year i put in the standard ECU and it still had the issue, coolant bars were rising before the radiator fans where even turning on.

Any idea what this might be? i have a after market aem wideband but eletrical wise nothing else.

Could this be some sort of ground issue? any one ever had anything like this?

How high -- how many bars -- show on the gauge? Do the radiator fans come on? Not that it helps you but my gauge has never gone above maybe 8 bars (2006 dash).

i have aem v2 so dont need the modifry, but regardless it seemed to do the same on my oem ECU when i swapped it over to pass the UK emissions last year.

Well the bars continue to rise dramatically, like nearly full if you carry on hammering it... As soon as you let off the gas it goes straight down again. Radiator fans do come on as expected. But for reference aem software will not be above 100degrees c but going by the dash only you would think that the car was 120+ which just is not the case, the dash seems to operate fine up until the actual temp gets above 93-94c and then goes crazy.

I have swapped in a brand new genuine ECT last year but made no difference

I am thinking checking the grounding under the dash as that's were i got the ground for the aem wide band (big bundle that all grounds go into) or maybe move my wideband to another ground to rule that out interfering

Do you have a IR thermometer gauge to check the engine temp? Maybe, on head, near exhaust, to compare to dash readings? I have a Fluke unit. Nice thing to have for all kinds of heating/AC issues.
