Default Couple specific install questions...

Okay, I've settled on what I'm going to install in my car. I have a couple install questions though.

First, what is a decent wire to use to wire my S? I don't need overkill here, and I don't seem to see people talking about this at all. Is StreetWires any good - I see their wire is twisted. What gauge, 12?

Second, where do I place my crossovers for my components? All I've seen in my searches is "in the door", but where exactly?

Finally, how much wire should I get to wire the car according to this diagram:

This is exactly what John aka Darknight1999 recommends. As I understand it, I need wire from the HU to the trunk amp, then from the trunk amp back up to the components, but I'm only going up and down the right side of the car. Also, wire to the amp. How many feet is this for speaker cable and for the amp's power cable? How about the RCAs? Any additional wire needed for Modfry's DCI? For running the iPod?

FYI, my equipment list:

HU - Alpine 9847 - don't need a lot of jazz, just enough power & no swing door, but not sure if its remote ready for Modfry's DCI - anyone know for sure???
Polk Audio Momo MCC6500 6.5's - good sound, not too bright, basically drop in.
Sub - Maybe an Alphasonik 608 - never heard it, just going on recommendations...
iPod adapter - Alpine's integrated unit for my iPod
Laurent's Sub box.
Modfry's DCI - going to add the dash controls, cut the speed sensor to the top CU, and add speed/volume.
amp - pre-owned for now, and I'll build the rack for it.

Thanks for all the info!

nice!! thats exactly my setup. I went all alpine:

9855 HU
KCA-420i (Ipod Interface)
MRV-F345 (1/2:75wRMS, 3: 150wRMS )
SPR-17LS (6.5 components, used oem basket removing the back-end + with included spacer from alpine to fit in the doors.)
SWR-1042D (500wRMS 1500wPeak) in a bazooka tube.

Depending on the size of your components xovers, you may be able to fit them in the kick panels (dvr and psgr sides). Thats what i did (i have a ap2 05). its easlier to make changes on the xovers when there in the kick panels, rather than removing teh door completely.

as for the amp i have it mounted virtically in the rear (no rack..)

i ended up getting the PAC DCI, IMO its cheaper, and works the same as MOdifrys DCI with the exception of variable volume speed. works like a charm!

That's a really nice drawing... Can I put that in my thread?

A couple things to help.

You won't need the grommets towards the back. There's a good size space back there to run wire through.
As for the crossovers they should fit inside the pocket/deadspace in the door. You'll see it when you take the door panel off. I honestly wouldn't put them in the door unless you protect them. By that I mean you put them in that space in the door and make sure that they won't get an water dripping on them from the outside. Otherwise just mount them in the trunk and run 4 conductor wire to the doors... which is actually the safer/better way.
You'll need about 15 feet of 4 gauge power wire and about 10 feet of 8 gauge power wire.
You'll need about 40-50 feet of speaker wire. You should get 14 gauge and yes twisted is better.
I used 16 foot RCA's but I bought them a little long on purpose incase I moved the amp and so I would have a little slack.

And you should pick up a small spool of say 14 or 16 gauge power lead wire. You can use it for just about anything. Remote turn-on lead, adding a line to the speed sensor and so on.

I hope that helps

Of course you can use that drawing in your threads - its basically what you've been telling everyone here! I'm still changing it now though, tweaks here and there, but nothing major.

When you have it pretty much done LMK and I'll copy it into the thread.
