Default Crackling in speaker.....help

Hey,
I have polk audio component speakers in the doors of my S and the woofer on the drivers has started making a crackling sound. Not sure why or how it started.

Any ideas what the problem could be?
Thanks!

can you give us a bit more info on what you've got... amps? did you rewire? stock wiring? what conditions does it crackle?

also, do you know how to remove the door panel?

Happened to me.....but it was my tweeter....does it seem to happen at high volume...???

Check to see if the + and - on the speaker wire are not touching....mine were, and caused the crackle.

I don't know much about the wiring set-up, but it seems like I should take off my door panel to check the wires I guess?

The crackle happens alot at lower volumes it seems like, and I think it goes away sometimes, but it could just be that I can't hear the crackle with the exhaust...

take off the door panel and check your wiring and the condition of the driver.

if it crackles a lot at various volumes, you may have a blown driver.

edit: typo

midrange = driver
tweeter = driver

it's just another word for speaker... sorry.

generally, when you have a speaker set (like components or home speakers where there are mulitiple speakers in the speaker), the term driver is used to differentiate between the entire 'speaker' and individual speakers...

i'm sure you could see how this avoids some confusion.

Ah, ok that does make sense. Similar to wheel, rim, tire.....I suppose. Thanks! I think I'll be checking it out this weekend when I get time.

I'll probably be checking back in here to let you know how it goes and if I have any more trouble.
