Default Crossover locations

I was under the impression that it was best to locate the crossovers as close to the speakers as possible. Is this wrong? If so, why?

I've done installs both way and found no real difference.

Is there supposedly a difference? You're telling me it really isn't audible. So I wonder what the alledged gain is from locating them right at the speakers. Mine are in the doors w/ my components. I'm thinking of pulling them out and placing them on the board separating the trunk from the cabin.

Thanks!

So if I wanted to stick the crossover in the door, any suggestions how to secure it? My crossover is light, can I just use double-sided tape?

Velcro is your friend.

Just take a run to Hope Depot Motorsports and get some velcro squares. 2 1" by 1" squares per crossover is good.

People reccomend that you do not place the crossovers in your door, as they could be damaged by moisture there. Mine are located up under the passenger side dash. If you pull that panel away that your knees are closest to there is a decent amount of space to place them. Good luck.

I agree ...
* crossover distance from speaker in a car our size makes no audible difference
* door mounting is not a great place given the moisture level.

I put my crossovers behind the removable panels behind the seats so I can get at them when tweaking & tuning. They are nice and dry there, and accessible.
