To cut or not to cut...
I've already read the s2000-specific Audio FAQ several times, and found that it has many good answers for generic questions.
Yes, I could not hear the music with top down at highway speed around 70 mph or higher.
I am debating either getting S-pods or cutting rear panels to install new rear 5.25" speakers as someone did in this board.
Does the my04 pre-wired for rear(headrest) speakers ?

It seems to me I remember reading a post a while back where somebody said that there were speaker leads for the headrest speakers that terminate under the console somewhere? That would seem to make sense as it would make for a much easier install without having to pull the HU and snake the wires into the console at least. So maybe the '04 is "semi-wired" for them...

OEM headrest speakers install instructions
looks like you run wires from the speakers back to the head unit...
no pre-wiring done imo.

Thanks guys,
After reading the OEM headrest speakers install instructions I come to the conclusion: I am not capable to do all the works as shown in the instructions. It is the work of the pro, I am going to buy the "correct sizes" door and rear speakers online and bring them to electronics store(s) to have them install to the car. Sizes: 6.5" for the doors and 5.25" for the rear panel ?

Well, from the looks of step #56 the head rest speaker wiring harness plugs into a 4-pin connector on a short pigtail inside the drivers side "front console" side panel, instead of directly into the HU itself. That must have been what that other post I saw was referring to. I guess you could call that (very) minimal pre-wiring
.

you know... the more that i look at those pictures Kronos, the more i'm not sure if those are 5.25"s.
during my troubleshooting frenzy, i had my door off for the first time in a long while and my cutout looked almost identical.
now, here's the source of my doubt...
there's a fuzzy memory deep in my mind that i'm trying to recall better or clear up by re-discovering the fact.... (some of my very old memories are tainted by early misinformation when i was learning...) but, i seem to recall that car speakers aren't measured via cone for size but from bracket diameter... if this is true, then you do have 6.5" speakers in there (OEM - which was actually slightly smaller than a 6.5")...
and considering the very minor amount of modifications you made -- i'm finding i have doubts.
i think i'm going to measure my MY01 speakers when i get home and see how they compare for size.
i sure wish Dave (NFC) or John (DK) would pipe in on this issue...
