It will work with any Sony deck that supports the RM-X2S or RM-X4S wired remote. It may work with other sony wired remote compatable receivers, but that will be on a trial and error basis.

I remember asking "why are you making it so complex". On reading the recent design spec I realise what you are aiming for and am very impressed/excited. Keep up the good work and keep us informed. I'm keen to try out this mod.

I'm all for the way s2kman is making it. I started making mine simple and the bare necessity, but s2kman's module is going to be more versatile and probably smaller in size too. Although it will be more expensive to make, but I think it's worth it.

As far as compatibility, Almilli is correct, it will work with any Sony Stereo that supports the Remote Commander. There is a 1/8" plug on the back of stereos that this thing supports. I am meeting with my friend tommorow to go over the work he did last week on optimizing the circuit. I'll have more news on Wednesday.

OK folks! Just wanted to get an update sent out, I'm still making progress. My friend finished an official schematic this weekend that included all the noise-reducing caps and inductors, as well as a couple of recomendations on some of the components. I'm in the process of building a 'portable' prototype from the schematic and will be adjusting the programming slightly to work with the updated components. This will get the project off of my bench and into the S2000. I'm about half finished with the wire wrap prototype and will be testing it 'in-car' next weekend. We'll make any adjustments we need to the schematic this coming weekend and should be able to order a few PCBs. If anyone is interested, I can post a pic of the wire-wrap proto sometime in the next couple of days!

I love it -- this is really going to happen! Thanks, S2Kman.

The top picture is the proper remote. Almilli reverse engineered it when he took one and he was kind enough to post the schematics.

I can't find any information about the remote pictured in the bottom picture. I looked on the Sony web site. Do you happen to know what model number that is?

Its probably time to start cataloging which Sony decks my device will work with. At this time it has been tested with two decks, so I can say for certain that it will work with these two:

XR-C5120 - Older Cassette Deck
CDX-MP450X - MP3 Player

I'll be visiting some audio shops and building a list of decks that are compatible soon. It probably won't ever be complete list, but if you already have a Sony deck, I'll provide very simple instructions on what to look for on the back of your deck to determine if it is compatible. I'll be putting up a web site soon.

You posted the magic words..
it will work with the CDX-MP450X mp3 deck.
That's what I've been hoping to hear!
Now ya got me all worked up, any idea on when you'll have some available to us "electical engineeringly challenged" folks?
as well as what it'll cost if you do decide to start making them available?
I've been wanting to change to the sony mp3 deck since the day I picked the car up, but the pac mod just didnt seem like the hot set up.

thanx guys for all your hard work and late nights!
