It depends. If I were to buy an Alpine HU, they only offer XM. That would either mean getting XM or a standalone Sirius adapter. XM has the following companies:
"Alpine Electronics, Inc., Blaupunkt, Bontec, Fujitsu Ten, Hyundai Autonet, Panasonic, Pioneer Electronic Corporation, Sony Electronics Inc., Audiovox, Clarion Co. Ltd., Delphi Delco Electronics Systems, Mitsubishi Electronics, Visteon, Pana-Pacific, and Sharp."
Sirius has:
"Kenwood, Panasonic, Clarion and Audiovox"
All equipment being equal and could be used with either service, I would use Sirius. The cost difference is minimal and no commercials. XM is good as well. Have you tried going to a retailer and trying out both? You also have to look at system integration as well.

lanbrown thanks for correcting me. I was going off what the salesperson at GoodGuys told me. Apparently they are clueless. I ended up with the XM by default since I purchased the Alpine Deck first. IMO, it has been a mediocre experence at best. Bad reception, volume issues, etc. Oh and the Playboy channel (which I don't subcribe to) is $2.99/ month extra. So the dues are very similar. Last thing you want is for someone to see you need Playboy to go.
I just got the Sirius system, I haven't finished installing yet. I am using the stock '02 head unit, which I have added aux. inputs to.
You can go to the two websites:
http://www.siriusradio.com/ and http://www.xmradio.com/
and actually see their programming channels and listen to their streams.....
I hope to have photos of the install later
