Default Do I need crossovers for 04 tweeters to work?

Hi Guys,

I have an 01 with Infinity Reference 6002si's in the door. I just recently purchased 04 door panels and they came with the stock 04 tweeters mounted also.

I was going to replace them both with Infinity 6000cs (components), but to save a little money first, I wanted to see if I could wire up the stock 04 tweeters. Would I need a x-over in order to hook them up to the existing coaxes?

What's the best way to hook these up?

Thanks!

You def. need a cross over for the tweeters. Might be able to get something cheap at Radio Shack.

Hi:
It is p[ossible that there is a "bass blocker" in the wire to the tweeter already, I think that whter was one in my 03 in the wiring to the tweeter. It looks like a little blue rectangle. It is a capacitoe that only allows the treble frequencys through to the tweeter and keepa the lower frequencys away. This is a cheep alternate to a crossover.

Someone check the Helm manual but I don't believe the stock MY02+ systems have any sort of crossover built into the system, it is a direct conect. Filtering may be handled by the tweeter itself. While a crossover is preferred it does not appear to be required here. Check the manual for wiring diagrams to be sure.

There might also be a capacitor wired onto the driver, to which the tweeter is connected.

i tend to agree with jason. there's got to be a capacitor in there somewhere, essentially blocking the low and mid frequencies from going to the tweeter.

my fear (and it is highly unlikely) is that the capacitor is wired up closer to the source, and that when you wire in the tweeter you are going to blow it. no worries though, you are getting proper crossovers and tweeters soon anyway.

what headunit are you running? and do you have an amp?

this is important.

Ahhh found the old topic I remembered....much discussion has been made about it. I think the consensus was that the hi pass filter is attached to the tweeter not in-line with the wire, but I haven't pulled my wires to see. If it is in the wiring, I would believe that it's in the helm manual wiring digrams, but if it's in the tweeter there may be no reference to it except by visual inspection.

Couple links...

Thanks for the advice guys.

I'm running a cheapy DEH-P4600MP that's 50 x 4, no external amp and no plans to run one.
