Does it make a difference if you top mount or bottom mount a sub?
When mounting a sub in an enclosure, does it make a difference if you top mount or bottom mount the sub? (assuming there is enough room to do it) Does it sound different?
do you mean facing up or down in the toolwell or just in general
subs fire backwards, so facing it up will disperse the sound better in the s2k as the sound will travel down into the toolwell and "bounce" out all over, likewise with the sidemounted 8"s firing back and bouncing out
it should sound louder and deeper overall better to have it firing down or sideways (ideally facing straight out but that isnt really feasible in the S)
You also get to see the sub
Many home stereo subwoofers fire downwards to fire the sound into the ground and disperse it throughout the room, if you know what to listen for front firing subwoofers can be "aimed" at certain parts of the room
On an additional note however I believe that you can change the phasing on some amplifiers to have the sub fire up to 180" out of cycle and in "reverse"
Does this answer what you were aiming for

This is not what I was asking but it sure was interesting to read.
I was just asking when I bolt my sub to the enclosure, is it better to slide the speaker into the top panel from the top and screw it down or to put the sub under the top panel and bolt it to the bottom of the top panel. Either way the sub fires in the same direction...
